Principal’s Message

HHS Community,

I’d like to start by thanking everyone for a wonderful job of handling the special keystone exam schedules last week. Our student body responded like champions to these changes. From our start in August until this point in January we’ve come a long way. This week students and teachers will be wrapping up their courses, putting the finishing touches on any culminating projects, and some of our students will still be completing Keystone Exams. Thursday, is the last day of the first semester. On Thursday, we will gather in the PAC for an assembly to discuss course selection, review rules/expectations, and to highlight upcoming events that students have planned for HHS. Friday, we will start our second semester courses.

Friday will be a normal early dismissal schedule. We had originally planned to hold a First Friday pep-rally this day, but have decided to postpone the event, so that students may focus on transitioning into their new classes and begin the second semester strong. WIN periods, and Lunches for the new semester will be added to PowerSchool on Wednesday. As a reminder, we do not change schedules for lunches. Lunches are determined by the 3rd period course. Please do not reach out to your counselor about your lunch.

Thank you and have a wonderful week!
~Dr. Brossman

Principal’s Message

HHS Community,

Happy 2026! We will be running special schedules for Keystone exams this week, January 6-9th. Students who are not testing do not need to be in school during the testing window. Non-testing students should plan to arrive by 10:00am in order to be on time for the start of their Pd1 class, which will begin at 10:05am. Non-testing students must enter HHS through the rear cafeteria entrance on the Pre-School side or the main Frankling Entrance. During these four days all bus transportation will operate as normal. Any student who needs transportation to school should ride their bus as usual. We will take daily attendance in 1st period after 10:05AM. Breakfast will be served as usual from 7:20-7:40AM. There will be no breakfast served for students arriving after 7:40am. All special schedules are posted in the Schoology calendar.

Thank you, and have a wonderful week!

Governor Shapiro recently signed Act 44 of 2025 into law, creating a new section of the Pennsylvania School Code titled “Parental and Employee Notification of Weapon Incidents.” This law takes effect on January 6, 2026.

Act 44 requires all school districts to notify parents, guardians, and school employees when an incident involving the possession of a weapon occurs on school property, school transportation, or at a school-sponsored activity. Unless circumstances require otherwise, notification must be made within 24 hours of the incident.

If an incident occurs within a school building, the district will notify parents or guardians of students enrolled in that building. When a school shares a campus with other buildings, the law requires notification to parents or guardians of students enrolled in or attending all buildings on that shared campus. For incidents that occur during school-sponsored activities or on school transportation, the district will notify the relevant stakeholders, including parents, guardians, and school employees.

The district will use the 5:00 p.m. e-news to provide these required notifications. In accordance with state and federal confidentiality laws, notifications will not include personally identifiable student information. Messages will contain only basic details, such as the date and location of the reported incident. (Sign up here for 5:00 E-News.)

Under the new law, notifications may occur more frequently, including in situations that do not pose an active safety threat. Notifications should not be interpreted as an increase in danger within our schools. Instead, it reflects a change in legal requirements for communication.

Please be assured that the district will continue to work closely with law enforcement, threat assessment teams, and safety and security personnel to maintain a strong and proactive safety framework. We will share updates related to this legislation as they become available. The safety and well-being of our students and staff remain our highest priority.
