HHS News

HHS Community,

Hempfield High School was placed in a Faculty Hold at approximately 11:05 a.m. today in response to a student matter. A Faculty Hold is a precautionary measure used to help maintain privacy and provide a safe, secure environment while situations such as medical emergencies or other matters are addressed.

East Hempfield Township Police officers and EMS personnel responded to assist. The situation was resolved promptly, and the Faculty Hold was lifted before 11:30 a.m. Normal school activities resumed without disruption to our lunch schedule.

Coincidentally, we reviewed our HHS Emergency Plans with the entire school on Thursday. While today's incident was unplanned, it provided an opportunity for our students and staff to put those procedures into practice. I want to commend our entire student body, faculty, and staff for their cooperation, patience, and maturity throughout the situation. Their response allowed our administrative team and emergency personnel to address the matter efficiently while maintaining a safe and orderly school environment.

Thank you for your continued trust and support as we work together to keep Hempfield High School a safe and welcoming place for our students.

We are excited to share that our general contractor, Lobar Inc., plans to begin site work this week on the new HHS addition. Therefore, we are now done using the Buchanan Gym entrance, Buchanan Gym parking lot, the rear training room entrance, pre-school loop, and baseball field areas. These areas must be avoided, and will soon be fenced in.

Please see the image below. Students, Staff, and Community must avoid the outlined area. We will no longer use the entrances highlighted with stars.

Principal’s Message

HHS Community,

Thank you to everyone who helped make our Homecoming activities such a tremendous success. There are so many moments from this past week that make me swell with pride as your principal. We truly have a special school community, and sometimes it takes a week like Homecoming to remind us just how unique HHS really is.

Our Jr./Sr. Flag Football Game drew a crowd larger than many schools see on a Friday night. The Homecoming Dance brought together more than 1,500 students — likely one of the largest gatherings of high school students in the state that evening. Our community lined the streets to cheer on the Homecoming Parade, and tonight, we will induct more than 100 students into the National Honor Society.

These are incredible events, but what makes them truly special are the Connections That Matter behind them.

  • Renaissance Club led the way with the Fall Fling.
  • Student Council organized the Flag Football Game, Homecoming Courts, and Parade, led by our own Hempfield Marching Knights (HMK).
  • Varsity Club provided doughnuts for parade participants.
  • 10th Grade Steering Committee hosted the Homecoming Dance.
  • NHS supported the dance with coat and bag check and water sales.

Behind every one of these events are students giving their time, staff members supporting them, families showing up, and community members cheering from the sidelines. These connections — between students and staff, classmates, families, and our community — are what make HHS more than just a school.

HHS is a special place because of what we do, but even more so because of who we do it with. Thank you for sharing your students with us and for helping them build a school they are proud to be a part of — a school filled with connections that matter.

Thank you and have a wonderful week!
