This Week at HHS

 Principal’s Message

HHS Community,

We’ve had a fantastic first two weeks of the school year. As we begin our third week of the year, students should be settling into the routines of school and be familiar with the expectations of HHS. This week we will have our first grade-level WIN5 meetings. Students will need to check their schedule in PowerSchool to see their assignments. Principals and counselors will use this time for grade level meetings and to reaffirm HHS expectations and opportunities.

I’d like to thank the HHS community for doing a wonderful job adjusting to our new morning drop off locations and routines. Please continue to pull ahead all the way to the drop off signs and encourage your students to exit your vehicles quickly. It really makes a difference with the morning flow of traffic, and keeps things running smoothly.

Parents/Guardians, you are invited to join us for Back to School Night this Thursday, September 10^th. We will have a brief parent/guardian meeting starting at 5:45pm in the Cafe. This meeting is designed to share HHS information, including our Vision, Mission, and Theme for this year, along with updates on the school, the building project and to introduce our administrative team. Following the parent/guardian meeting, starting at 6:15pm, you will have an opportunity to follow your student’s Semester 1 Day 1 schedule and hear from their teachers. New this year, after going through the Semester 1 schedule, we will run through our Semester 2 Day 2 schedule, to give you an opportunity to learn about your student’s second semester courses.

We will NOT have a second semester back to school night this winter.

This Friday marks the 25^th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks on our country. The HHS Social Studies department is leading our effort to remember this tragedy. On Thursday our students will have an opportunity to hear from first responders who were present on the day of the attacks. On Friday students will help construct an area of Remembrance in front of HHS around the Flagpole. All ~3,000 victims’ names will be displayed along with the personal stories of some of the victims. We would like to invite the HHS community to visit the display after 3:00pm on Friday to remember all who lost their lives on that terrible day 25 years ago.

Items of Note:

• Reminder to all families: Student health history forms must be completed and signed by a parent/guardian every year. Nurses cannot treat students without written parent permission please return these forms ASAP.

 

• Construction Update:
  • Work has begun on the softball and baseball fields! It is important that staff, students, and community members stay out of these areas. Please see the related blog post depicting the areas that must be avoided. ~Thank You

We are excited to share that work has begun on our new Baseball and Softball fields. These areas of our campus are now active construction zones and must be avoided by students, staff, and community members. We appreciate everyone's assistance in staying out of these areas so that work can be completed safely. Thank You!

CHIP covers uninsured children and teens up to age 19 – and no family earns too much to qualify. With nearly 128,000 uninsured children in Pennsylvania, this is great news for families!

CHIP provides quality, comprehensive health insurance for routine doctor’s visits, prescriptions, dental, eye care, eyeglasses, mental health, and much more. CHIP covers uninsured kids who are not eligible for Medical Assistance. For many families, CHIP is free; for others, it is low-cost.

The first HHS home football game is this Friday!   Before you head to the game, take a moment to review our stadium guidelines to help ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone.

High School Athletic Season Passes are on sale now! Beat the lines and purchase yours this week:

• General Public: Buchanan Office, 8–2:30 and 3–4 pm daily
• Students: Athletic Department throughout the school day
• Game Day 9/4: Passes will be available at the stadium starting at 5:30 pm

 

 

PSAT Registration Now Open for Juniors

Registration is now open for Hempfield High School juniors who are interested in taking the PSAT. Students who register for the digital PSAT are expected to participate in each of the following required components:

💻 PSAT Technology Readiness
Students will need to download the Bluebook testing application and verify that their device meets the testing requirements prior to test day. Instructions will be provided and can be found in the “Class of 2028 Schoology course” under “materials” and within the “PSAT folder.” 

👥 PSAT Demographic Session
Students will attend a brief demographic session during WIN in the cafeteria based on their last name:

• October 1: Last names A–La
• October 5: Last names Le–Z

📝 PSAT Testing
The PSAT will be administered at 7:45 a.m. in the HHS cafeteria:

• October 7: Last names A–La
• October 8: Last names Le–Z

🔄 Make-Up Dates

• Demographic session: October 6
• PSAT: October 13

Registration Deadline: Friday, September 18, 2026

If your student would like to take the PSAT at Hempfield High School, please make sure they complete the registration form by the deadline. By registering, students are committing to participating in the technology readiness requirements, demographic session, and PSAT testing.
